    Dear BPW Colleagues,

Susan Weidner Cooke, President We continue to line-up our programs for the rest of the year and into Fall of 2009 through Spring 2010. At each meeting we bring a topic that fits in our Mission of supporting and educating professional women. Some of our past speakers have been the Mayor of Nashua, the woman who started the NH Women's Bar Association, the woman who did Hilary Clinton's makeup when she was in town last year, a President of a local college, the woman who won the Citizen of the Year Award, an OB-GYN that was named doctor of the year, to name a few. If you have any specific speakers or topics that you would like to see on the calendar for next year, please contact me at 578-9899 X203.

Now in addition to our programs, we are once again working on the second part of our Mission of making bigger contributions to the community through paying for High School Diploma's or GED's for women at the Adult Learning Center. This money will come from any contributions and fundraising that we do through out the year, as well as, our regular budget. We will report to you the number of "degrees we pay for" as this takes place. We are very excited that we are able to enhance our contribution to the community with this effort. If you want to be more involved with this service to our community, please call me.

We are in the process of finding a person to join our Board, who has marketing experience. We want specific direction on how we can best market our organization, within the funds we have, so we can increase participation at meetings and have more women in southern NH benefit from our meetings. Again, if you know of someone, or have the expertise yourself, to help us, please give me a call at the above number.

Don't forget to update your 2009 calendars for the year, for the 3rd Thursday 11:00 registration and networking at the Crowne Plaza so you don't miss any of the great programs we have lined up. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Weidner Cooke
President

    Committee Reports

Membership Committee
By Julia Manlogon
The Membership Committee is pleased to announce the following renewing members.
Nancy Baughman - Resource Recruiting
Susan Dugdale - Caesar's Brook Business Solutions

Membership Awards
Beginning in September and running until May, the Membership Committee will be keeping close track of how many guests members bring to meetings and how many of those guests become members. In June, awards will be given out to the winning members. An award will also be given to the newest member that has been most active with BPW. Greater Nashua BPW will recognize the woman who has been the member the longest and those members who have a five year and ten year membership history. The Committee will include a non-member award to be given to the woman in the community that has promoted women in the workplace.
All members are encouraged to participate by bringing guests to every meeting. On your mark, get set, go get those friends and colleagues to come to one of our great meetings. As for our new members, there are many committees and short term projects that could use your help and skills. The winners will receive awards that will be desired by all!
The Membership Committee meets after the Thursday meetings. Please see any of the members for more information. Julia Manlogon, (Committee Chairperson membership@bpwnashua.com ), Madeline Hollins, Paula, Kifer, and Carolyn Madden.

Political Activist Report
By: Kimberlie Hoffmann
I think we could say BPW is starting the New Year Out Right! We've made leaps and bounds with regards to the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Bill by sweeping through the Senate, passing through the House again and now on to President Obama's desk for a sure sign off. Obama invited Ledbetter to accompany him on his train trip to the inauguration ceremony in Washington and told her he would see her in the White House when they sign the bill!
The House first passed the bill on January 9th and the Senate approved it last week by 61-36 with all 16 female senators, including 4 Republicans voting in favor. Now, as a small business Owner I might be concerned what this would mean to my future as I grow and hire employees. Well, I think all businesses should adopt the same policies that we see the Government using. When a job is posted a salary range is also posted. This lets any one applying understand not only the job responsibilities and qualifications, but the range of pay according to experience. Keeping secrets never pay's and treating people openly and fairly should be the way ALL companies work.
We still have other challenges to over come but we seem to be moving in the right direction

As you know, BPW Nashua is a member of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce. It has recently come to our attention that this is a limited membership. Our Chamber contact has forwarded their official policy on member organizations and non-profits.
It is as follows: "For non-profit organization and membership organizations with paid staff, the Chamber's membership benefits are extended to all members of the paid staff. For non- profit organizations and membership organizations without a paid staff, the Chamber's membership benefits are extended to the organization's Board of Directors only, for their term in office only. The organization is requested to provide the Chamber with an up-to-date listing of their Board on an annual basis." Please accept our apologies for any confusion.

Looking forward to seeing you on April 16th.

Sincerely,
Lopa Shroff
