Dear BPW Colleagues, |
| |

I spend my days trying to make a difference. I spend my nights
dreaming of how I can make a difference. Whether it is the
organizations I am a member of, the company that I run, or
society in general, I am always asking the question, how can we
improve that?
Is it entrepreneurial spirit? Perfectionism? Or is it just a
pure gesture of love? I believe it is probably a combination of
all three, but the reason doesn’t really matter. What matters is
what I do with the information I gather. How do we as a
community make a difference? How do we lower crime rates? How do
we make sure every person has a healthy body? How do we support
women in business? How do we make sure every child goes to bed
with a full belly and warm clothes? I am one person. I can make
an impact. But it is not the same impact that can be made when
20, 30, or 40 people make a decision together to make a change.
We are all members of a great organization, a living proof that,
when great people and great minds combine, we can do Anything!
Thank you for joining the BPW and giving your best to make a
difference.
The BPW currently has many ways for you to volunteer to
participate at the local level and the state level. Your
participation is making a difference.
Sincerely,
Barb Tremlett
President

Ready for Tax Time? |
| |

Does it take too long to get your tax records together? Tired of
criss-crossing the house looking for documents? Does your CPA
have a lot of questions after you have submitted everything? Try
these quick organizing tips to ease the "tax burden" on your
stress level and your time.
- Tax documents get a special place. Keep a "tax
documents" envelope where you open the mail. As official
documents arrive, drop them in the envelope so they're not mixed
together with other papers. If you CPA provides you with a tax
organizer package, take a look; these are very handy as
reminders of those "odd" or one time situations you should make
him or her aware of.
- Schedule time with your taxes. Lock in a dedicated
time. Take out your calendar right now and book an appointment
with yourself. Do it early enough so you have time to call to
request missing documents. If you can't block this many hours
all at once, block out a few times. Knowing that you've set
aside time will ease your mind. And this helps ensure you hit
the deadline.
- Take an inventory of everything you need. Do you have
a CPA? Need time to get a friend's recommendation? Or do you
have necessary software? (Add that errand to your calendar or
order it tonight online.) Gather documents. (It's finding the
property tax check or the medical receipts that takes time.)
- Request "quiet time." Close the door. Go the library.
Get a babysitter. You'll breeze through the tax preparation if
you have uninterrupted quiet time.
- Keep a "missing items" list. Unless you need to take
a break, avoid getting up often to find a missing document. Make
a list as you work. If you leave the quiet space you may not get
back there the same day.
And for next year...
Set up a system to help you keep track of business expenses. Along
with the right software package, you need a sustainable, easy, and
fast process to keep track of expenses so that you can get them
into the software on a timely basis. This also allows you to run a
full picture of the financial side of your business as the year
progresses, which is so important in many ways.
A "system" needs the right product for your work style and
learning style, the right process for using the product and
getting what you need out of it, and people – discipline to use
the system once you have figured out which ways work best for you
in your office. The better the system fits your work style and
learning style, the more successful you will be, the less stress,
and the more time you will have.

Email marketing has proven to be an effective, reliable tool for
business professionals when keeping in contact with their
clientele. Join us this month when a representative from
Constant Contact walks us through the most important
elements of your email communications. From how often to send
communications to what day is most effective, you will walk away
with enough tools to start or beef up your email marketing.
Kerry Willard Bray of KWB Designs will be sponsoring our

Marketplace.” Pam Richardson of In Hot Water sponsored
this meeting.

2005 Nashua Citizen of the Year Award, discussed her work and
involvement at the hospital and in the community. Nashua
Pastoral Care sponsored this meeting.
- January – Sharron McCarthy, VP and Publisher
of NH Magazine, shared with us the experiences she went through
professionally and personally to get to where she is today. She
also shared ideas of how to set yourself apart from the
competition in regards to marketing your business and skills.
- February – Susan Granfors, Chef/Owner of House
on the Hill, spoke on “Growing Your Home- Based Business.” Once
again, Pam Richardson of In Hot Water sponsored this
meeting.
We look forward to seeing you—and your guest!—at our meeting on
